The Egg & the Eye

This (unfertilized) baby chicken egg wishes to be something far greater: a wise owl. It seeks higher knowledge and admires the intellect of the majestic bird. Since his birth has already predefined him as a flightless chicken—who will ultimately be consumed by a human one day—he has decided to dress himself up as his dream self until his unfortunate fate.

I painted the egg a gray because that color commonly represents maturity and wisdom (though boring and depressing in other senses). As humans grow older, and hopefully wiser, their gray hair is associated with intelligence. I had water color paints and some feathers in my home already, though I did have to buy the googly eyes.
